Delicious is Yummy

I really like Delicious. The day after I dove into it I came to school and told a co-worker I discovered a whole new side of the Internet. I then got a funny look so I had to show her. I found so many great websites by using Delicious I started emailed them out to people left and right. I sat at my computer for over two hours one night just looking at websites that others had tagged. I then realized why they call it social bookmarking as well, I could have saved time explaining why I was emailing websites to individuals. If they would have also had a Delicious account I would not have had to send so many emails. Another reason I really like Delicious is because I often forget to add a website to my favorites list mostly because I'm lazy. Most of the websites I visit on a regular basis are in my scroll down menu at the top of my browser. However, if you get a virus on you computer and have to have it cleaned out, all of those websites are gone, which I recently learned the hard way. Has I known about Delicious earlier I would have all those websites saved in my account.

  1. It is a great tool that can be accessed from any computer. I have also shared this tool with my co-workers and they have been resistant. Lets face it, technology scares some people. but Delicious is different to me because it is just chalk full of usefull resources. Like you said, its a whole new side of the internet.

  3. Hi Sarah. I think it was you that mentioned your inbox on Delicious and not being able to figure it out. You're right, it is a bit confusing! And from what I can tell, you can't send an actual message, it's just a way to share a link with a certain person that you think might find it of interest. As I was putzing around, it took me a while, but I think I found it in "edit" on a tag. The bottom line is labeled "for" and you can type in someone's username. I tried it out and I'm pretty sure I sent you a link to your account.

  5. You get the messages in the inbox in delicious I think. I send them to Anne Zarinnia, my colleague, all the time. One thing I like to do is set up a network, so I can quickly look at what others are tagging. You do that by going to People - Network and add a user to the network (person's delicious account). You can bundle people together into categories (e.g., family, professional, class) by choosing Options next to the People link at the top of all the people in your network and group them into appropriate categories. Someone can be in more than one category if you want.

I also like that you can Mark as Private anything you bookmark so you can share what you want and also have things that are just useful to you. It's done by checking the box next to the page titles when you add a bookmark.
